MECU’s overdraft services can help you avoid unnecessary fees by making automatic transfers when your balance won’t cover a check or debit transaction amount.
Overdraft Privilege
A part of every MECU checking account (no enrollment required), Overdraft Privilege provides automatic overdraft service on your checking account. If you are a member in good standing (i.e., no loan delinquencies) and write a check or initiate a recurring debit or ACH transaction and do not have sufficient funds in your account, MECU will automatically pay these transactions on your behalf and apply an overdraft/NSF fee. You must bring your account into positive balance once every statement period. There is an overdraft fee of $25 per debit or check paid.
Overdraft Transfer
If you write a check or attempt to make a debit card transaction with non-sufficient funds in your checking account, Overdraft Transfer automatically moves available funds from your MECU savings account into your checking account to cover the amount.

Just make sure your savings account has a sufficient balance to enable the Overdraft Transfer and avoid an overdraft/NSF fee. To sign up for Overdraft Transfer:
- Log in to your MECU checking or savings account
- Click on the “Service My Accounts” button
- Click on the “Change Overdraft Services” link
- Click on “Overdraft Transfer” to proceed
Debit Card Overdraft Privilege
MECU provides this optional service for members who would like overdraft coverage for their everyday one-time debit card transactions, such as a grocery checkout purchase or payment at the gas pump. If a member elects this coverage, MECU will automatically cover the amount of a one-time debit transaction and apply an overdraft/NSF fee. There is a fee of $25 per debit. To sign up for Debit Card Overdraft Privilege:
- Log in to your MECU checking or savings account
- Click on the “Service My Accounts” button
- Click on the “Change Overdraft Services” link
- Click on “Debit Card Overdraft Privilege” to proceed
